Christian Youths to Tinubu: Act now on hunger, insecurity

The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate action to address the growing hunger and insecurity in the country.

The group made this demand at the end of its 2nd Quarter National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Friday at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

YOWICAN National Chairman, Belusochukwu Enwere, stated that the group commended the President for his efforts in reviving the economy, citing the recent passage of the ₦70,000 minimum wage Act, granting of local government autonomy, and implementation of the Student Loan Fund.

However, Enwere emphasized that these reforms are not enough to address the current economic hardship and insecurity faced by millions of Nigerians.

The Christian youths expressed concern over the persistent increase in food prices, which has led to unprecedented levels of hunger and suffering.

They urged the President to take concrete steps to address this issue and ensure effective implementation of his economic reforms.

Insecurity remains a major concern, with YOWICAN condemning the recent multiple bomb blasts in Borno State that claimed 18 lives.

They demanded immediate action to release abducted citizens, including Pastor Paul Musa, his wife, and daughter, who have been in captivity since March 2023.

YOWICAN dissociated itself from planned protests against the government, opting instead for prayers and constant engagement with the authorities to address the nation’s challenges.
